About Four-Player chess
How Four-Player chess works
The board is a standard centre with an 8 × 3 arm on each side; each player's full army starts on one arm and turns pass clockwise. Pieces move exactly as in chess. In free-for-all, a checkmated player's pieces leave the board and the last king standing wins; in team play, partners sit opposite each other and win by mating both opponents.
With three opponents, threats come from every direction and your 'back rank' is exposed on two sides. Develop toward the centre, keep the king tucked into the arm, and watch for the player who is about to be eliminated — their pieces disappear, opening lines for everyone.
